Job Overview
Seriti is inviting internal and external applications for the position of Underground Mine Overseer (Roadbuilding & Water Pumping) at Khutala Colliery in Mpumalanga. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing underground operations with a strong focus on safety, production, and compliance with legal and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Manage employees to achieve safety, health, environmental, production, and planning targets
Take legal responsibility for safety in all activities under assigned control
Oversee daily underground operations, including safety, production, and cost control
Plan short- and medium-term activities to meet production targets
Ensure all legal, operational policies, procedures, and standards are implemented and followed
Communicate effectively with operational managers to support the mining value chain
Achieve production targets while strictly adhering to maintenance and production schedules
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy and English – NQF Level 4)
Further Education and Training Certificate in Mining Operations
Mine Overseer Certificate (MOC) for Fiery Mines
Underground Blasting Certificate or Rock Breaking qualification for Fiery Mines
Completed Mine Overseer Certificate (MOC) or Mining Intern Programme
Minimum of 4 years’ experience as an appointed underground Shiftboss
Completed at least 1,000 underground risk shifts
Strong knowledge of underground operations, safety systems, and mining regulations
Good managerial, supervisory, analytical, and communication skills
Computer literacy (MS Office)
Valid driver’s license
Medically fit or able to obtain a Certificate of Fitness
Advantageous Qualifications
Degree or Diploma in Coal Mining Engineering (BSc, BTech, Advanced Diploma, or National Diploma)
Mine Manager Certificate (MMC) for Fiery Mines
Safety courses (S2 ORMP)
Acting experience as an Underground Mine Overseer
ECSA registration
Coaching and mentoring training
Experience in roadbuilding, water pumping, and outbye support activities
